It's a belief that can hold you in a state of illusion and false hope for most, if not all, of your life... if you let it.
Its voice sounds like laughter, its face a moulded smile, however a double take into the depth of its eyes will reveal the hidden exhaustion of its host.
The exhaustion that comes from holding at bay, anything that is not perceived 'positive'; joyful, happy or peaceful.
The exhaustion that comes from trying to live one quarter of who you really are while keeping the lid on the rest in the name of pleasure.
This is the belief that we must strive for JOY and merely cope with ANGER, SADNESS and FEAR.
Do you know this exhaustion of not BEING all of YOU?
When you are only striving for JOY you're ignoring three quarters of your life experience and pushing that away is bloody exhausting.
You're also blocking out a large portion of life's potential that's right there waiting for you to let it in.
It is through allowing in the gifts of Joy's compadrés Anger, Sadness & Fear that Joy can truly, genuinely, authentically show up.
In fact, I’ll go as far as saying that Joy NEEDS the gifts of the full spectrum of feeling through Anger, Sadness and Fear so that it may be completely ALIVE in your life.
Let me break this down for you a bit further in archetypal terms.
Anger is your protector.
Anger is the one who own its NO! and YES! creating clarity with strong boundaries and direction. Real Anger creates a solid container within which you can feel and experience a whole lot more of yourself… and others.
Anger is your Warrior/ess who is calmly assertive most of the time and fiercely bold when needed. It becomes a JOY to experience life with clarity, safe boundaries and the capacity to act on that to which you are drawn.
Sadness is your self-love.
The one who reminds you to listen to the call of your inner voice. To be still, soft and open and to extend out from this place in contact with others. True Sadness is not weak but a reminder to come home to yourself; home to the JOY that it is to be in connection with all of who you are.
Sadness is the Lover whose quiet gentle caress accepts all of you unconditionally and, at times, whose whaling voice can call the lost parts back home. To be in connection with yourself is a JOYful place to BE and Sadness is required for this depth of connection.
Fear is your best friend.
Fear has always got your back if you’re willing to choose to trust it. Fear is your alertness, the one who knows which path is the safest to take, every time. If you push it away long enough you may want to fight, flight or freeze. However if you open to its wisdom, Fear can show you how to Fly.
Fear is your Magician, your Sorceress, your intuition that is connected to a universal sense of knowing that is far more expansive than the intellect of your rational mind. JOY depends the wisdom of Fear to feel safe to be seen and to step into the unknown.
Once your Warrior/ess, your Lover and Magician/Sorceress are supporting you to navigate through this experience called life you awaken the benevolent Leader whose experience is that of the JOY of life.
The JOYful Leader has the capacity to manifest the desires of the heart unbound from false beliefs and connected to the wholeness of being Alive.
Do yourself a favour and check in what your priorities are when it comes to Joy and Happiness.
Are you spending alot of energy striving for a particular state of being at the expense of who you really are?
Are you willing and able to harvest the gifts of all of life’s experiences without labelling them as positive or negative?
Life is life.
Let go of Joy and grab Life by the Horns.
